Like a school kid enthusiastically running to class for show & tell (yes, I was that eager beaver) I have been proudly sharing my website with anyone who I speak or e-speak to. I have received heart-warming support from my online community, the vary space which has allowed me to solidify my brand. I’ve had two recent conversations that have sparked a similar discussion with both friends that questioned the importance of them needing a website. My response to both was identical- your website is like supermarkets, petrol stations and washing your hands.
A website is essential and here are five reasons why:
1. You control your business story
So, what do you offer again? What are you selling? Why are you in business and why should customers choose you, with all that is on offer to them? A website is an opportunity to syndicate a clear and consistent message to not only your existing customers but to prospective ones too. Who better than to sell your story, than yourself? What is unique about your business and sets you apart from the competition? This is a key message to communicate via your website, allowing you to paint the picture of your business.
2. Websites are the new window shopping
Given the impact of COVID-19, statistics of online usage is through the roof- I can vouch for occasional WIFI disruptions with so many more people working from home, browsing, shopping and entertaining themselves online. A website gives you a window of opportunity to the ever-growing internet platform whether you are offering information or have an online store. Everyone is online and you need to be too.
3. Your customers are looking for you
Just because you have Facebook or Instagram for your business, doesn’t mean all of your customers do too. A website will solidify your online presence, catering to not only your existing customers but to the new ones who are looking for you, especially on search engines such as Google. Customers may not search your exact business name, however, them typing keywords relating to your business such as "Melbourne mechanic" or "Sydney function room," is a key to connecting your target audience with your website.
4. Make your business available 24 hours a day
I am a notorious night-owl. My google searches after business hours warrant its own TV show. You never know when a customer is looking for some more information about what you offer, or if they would like to book an appointment when you or your team aren’t available to answer the phone out of business hours. Having a website is super convenient for your customers and can maximise your time management, so you can spend your time on what you do best- the very reason why you are in business to begin with.
5. Be the competition
Knowing what sets you apart from your competition, makes you the competition. A website not only builds your online presence, it places you at the forefront of your industry and builds your competitive advantage.
A professional website that engages your audience enough for them to connect or do business with you is the key- ensure your website isn’t a deal breaker and rather, a money maker.
